Welcome to Musical Days in Forest Hill 2004!
A summer chamber music festival
Last year our neighbors, internationally acclaimed orchestral and opera conductor Kent Nagano and pianist, Mari Kodama, together with their friends from the Vienna Philharmonic, organized a series of exquisite and intimate chamber music concerts at the Forest Hill Club House. Due to the overwhelming response from the community, the Naganos have agreed to do it again!
The Los Angeles Times hailed Mari Kodama's piano interpretation: "...graceful phrasing and subtle sense of coloration....the sheer impact of such intense music-making was arresting."

This year’s program will feature eleven outstanding musicians from the renowned Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the Orchestre de Paris, plus a piano duet with concert pianists, Mari Kodama and her sister, Momo Kodama. All of the musicians will be performing as friends of the Naganos and for the love of music. They have agreed to donate their services as a gift to the Forest Hill community. They will be staying with host families in the neighborhood. This is an opportunity for the Forest Hill neighborhood to experience a rare musical tradition, one previously reserved for musicians and their closest friends, and in earlier times, for European royalty.
While the musicians have all agreed, as friends of the Naganos, to take this time off from their normal activities to join us here in Forest Hill, there are still expenses to be covered, including airfare, the program and ticket printing, piano rental, delivery and tuning, and post-performance refreshments. Without the donations of time and talent, the ticket cost for these concerts would be in the range of $250 each, per performance.
Last year, there was a full house for each of the 4 performances. This year there will again be four performances: evening performances on Friday & Saturday, June 11th & 12th, and a matinee and early evening performance on Sunday, June 13th.
